Important Update!

Dear Clients,

We have had several cases of what we and the local veterinarians believe is Kennel Cough (Bordetella) and all dogs involved were vaccinated. I have spoken to many of our local veterinarians and they are advising that this is a very contagious illness that is spreading through our area rapidly. Bordetella is not generally a serious illness, but if you suspect your dog may be ill please keep them home a minimum of one week and seek veterinary care. I have been told by a Veterinarian that the drug companies are offering free cultures in an effort to establish why the vaccine is seemingly ineffective. In addition, and of more concern, is what appears to be a massive outbreak of Canine Influenza. New York and Pennsylvania are having to close veterinary clinics and kennels. We have been informed that dogs in Baltimore and Columbia have been affected. In an effort to be proactive we must now make mandatory vaccinations for Bordetella and Canine Influenza. We’ve Gone to the Dogs and Dr. Nancy Powel of Maryland Mobile Vet will be offering vaccination clinics here at the kennel. The first clinic will be offered August 3 beginning at 11:00am, and the second one will be August 9 at 1:30pm. Please call for an appointment. We must ask that if your dog is NOT vaccinated, you keep them home until they are. We are also on the advice of the veterinarians recommending that you do not visit dog parks, pet stores, or any other place your dog may be exposed to other dogs. The following is a list of symptoms to look for:

-Coughing

-Sneezing

-Variable fever

-Clear nasal discharge that progresses to thick, yellow-green mucus

-Rapid difficult breathing

-Loss of appetite

-Lethargy

We are sorry to be the bearer of this news, but be assured that we are using all cleaning and quarantine protocols available. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 410-596-4969.

Thank you,

Vanessa Armstrong
